The Waltham Watch Company

Grandpa’s WWII Compass

The Waltham Watch Company produced about 40 million watches, compasses, clocks, timed fuses, speedometers, and other precision instruments between 1850 and 1957. Among these were the brass pocket compasses carried during WWI and WWII. This particular compass was my grandfathers. Growing up this compass was always in my fathers duck box, and a source of intrigue for my young mind. Today it lives in my duck box as a piece of my grandfather I can hold in my hands. I barely knew the man – he died when I was young, but I connect with him through the rifles, shotguns, and this compass that remain in my care.
