Winchester Model 1894 Manufactured Date of 1895

In honor of the shot show this year I figured I would take an a trip back to the beginning. The Model 1894, or Model 94 as otherwise referenced, was the first commercial American repeating rifle built to be used with smokeless powder. Pictured here is my grandfathers which he “tacted out” with a Lyman peep sight and some sweet hand checkering. The octagonal barrel chambered in 38-55 makes a great baton if ammo runs low. This particular one was manufactured in 1895 and is still enjoyable to shoot today. Although special ammo is needed for the older ones it is undeniable the connection to history when you feel the weight of it, hear the report, and smell the powder. This high speed unit was the choice tool for hunting in the dense eastern forests like we have near here at #chickamauganationalforest in North Ga. it was also the first sporting rifle to sell over 7,000,000 units.
